The Oyster Bay High School building’s original masonry work has served as an inspiration and contextual reference to BBS’s design of repairs and restoration of the damaged brick walls, masonry elements, and decorative façade features. All windows and exterior doors were meticulously replaced to improve the overall energy performance of the building envelope. Through a sensitive approach, the architects at BBS were able to restore the original magnificence of the building’s masonry façades, and thus further enhance and embellish High School building’s prominence in the community.
The High School building was also in need of new science laboratory space. The existing science rooms were renovated despite numerous architectural constraints, including low ceilings. Ultimately, BBS designed a new, state-of-the-art science building addition with new lecture and lab classrooms and spaces, while completely re-configuring the existing science program areas.
