Cathedral Pines County Park Campground

In May of 2024,  the Suffolk County Department of Parks and Recreation announced the reopening of the Cathedral Pines County Park Campground after an extensive 10-month long renovation project of Camping Field B. Implementation of Phase 2 of the overall Park Master Plan completed by BBS in 2015 began in the Fall of 2023 and was completed in time for the busy 2024 summer camping season.

Phase 1, which consisted of utility infrastructure, was completed prior to COVID. Phase 2 involved the re-imagining and complete electrification of Camping Field B as a state-of-the-art RV / Trailer Park with (80) pull-through and back-in type camp sites with power and water hook-ups. Other amenities at each camp site include paved access drives, concrete pads with picnic tables, barbeque grilles, and fire rings, and native, deciduous trees for shade at each site. (7) of the campsites meet the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Another component of the overall campground renovation program was the construction of new horseshoe courts, bocce courts, sand volleyball court, and parking facilities. A separate but concurrent project upgraded the existing on-site sanitary wastewater systems with new I/A nitrogen-reducing systems to help protect local water sources and reduce environmental impact.

Based on the 2015 Park Master Plan, future improvements (currently in the planning and design stages) will include a new bathhouse, a new maintenance building, and an update to the park recreation core, which includes a children’s playground, paved play courts for basketball, volleyball and pickleball, and a picnic pavilion with a common barbeque area and fire rings.
