Stony Brook University Campus Residences Office

BBS was selected from a large pool of architectural firms to design extensive renovations and new building addition(s) to the central offices of the Department of Campus Residences located in Irving Hall in Mendelsohn Community on the Stony Brook University’s main campus. The project comprised the existing Campus Residences office facility, existing adjacent warehouse was converted into office spaces, new building addition(s) as required to accommodate the desired program scope, new site infrastructure and facilities to provide pedestrian and vehicular approach for students and visitors, and to create a welcoming focal point at the University.

The detailed scope included renovating and reorganizing all of Campus Residences existing offices in Irving Hall (approximately 6,500 SF) as well as incorporating the existing adjacent warehouse space (approximately 5,500 SF). The project also required new addition of approximately 3,000 – 4,000 SF to accommodate the program scope requested by Campus Residences. It was envisioned that this project would modernize and update the offices of the department of Campus Residences, providing welcoming light-filled spaces, utilizing high quality materials, as well as being environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The exterior site work portion of the scope was to accommodate existing site features, pavement, pedestrian and vehicular access, drop-off and parking, exterior entry plaza, staff break area, site lighting, and miscellaneous appurtenances. The alterations to the existing site and parking areas were necessary to accommodate the desired project scope.
