Suffolk County Parks Check-in Station Buildings

BBS developed a master template design for a new Check-in Station building to be utilized by the Suffolk County Parks Department throughout various County parks. The design established a new adaptable design standard which addresses current and future parks and recreation needs. The template design was developed in such a manner so it could be used on any site, subsoil, and topography, and accommodates varying park site conditions.

The Check-in Station design provides for an ample lobby area with an ADA-compliant access and a countertop for park visitors, general office space for up to (4) people, a private office, unisex toilet facility, storage closet, kitchenette with “lunch area”, and a bump-out for drive-up purposes. Attached to the building is an exterior tool storage and maintenance equipment shed. In the initial phases, the project included siting the proposed template building in (3) Suffolk County parks, namely, at Indian Island (Town of Riverhead), Cedar Point, and Montauk Outer Beach Park (both Town of East Hampton).

Heavily used by the Long Island public during main summer seasons, some Suffolk County Parks campgrounds urgently required a new check-in station or required their current check-in station be replaced as they were at the end of their life expectancy. BBS partnered up with Suffolk County DPW to develop a template design which features a flexible building footprint and a rustic/log cabin look to blend in with existing park settings.
