Located on the same campus as the Middle School, the Westhampton Beach High School improvement project included 2 major building additions and miscellaneous renovations throughout the facility. The first was a new 800-seat Performing Arts Center, complete with a new lobby, large group instruction space and theatrical classroom support spaces. The second project was a building addition and renovation comprising 10 science classrooms. Each of the projects was specifically targeted at a distinct instructional need of the school district. An extensive interior and exterior renovations and a full window replacement accompanied the two projects.
The Westhampton Beach Middle School was once this district’s High School. As enrollment and program offerings began to rise, the older facility started to show signs of spatial inadequacy and low energy performance. A series of additions and original building structure alterations have resulted in a state-of-the-art educational complex.
After upgrading the existing building envelope structures including roofs, windows and doors, BBS embarked on the journey of designing a new Middle School building addition that would faithfully imitate the original building’s historic character. This new project included a full-size gymnasium complete with locker rooms, as well as a music suite, which offered appropriately sized and detailed music spaces. The original gymnasium has been adaptively converted to cafetorium use and the kitchen and serving facilities were fully renovated.
