Shelter Island School Septic System Nearing Completion

Shelter Island, NY – Shelter Island School authorities and BBS have confirmed that the installation of new nitrogen-reducing Fuji septic system is nearing completion.

With the installation, the long-standing goal of ensuring the safety of drinking water in the Center will take a significant step forward, and despite some remaining site work, it remains on track for completion by the end of August as originally scheduled.

Previously, the district had postponed the project in anticipation of joining a unified septic system for multiple public buildings in the Center of the Island. However, in the spring of 2023, the Board of Education decided to proceed with a separate septic project using Innovative/Alternative (I/A) systems and approached BBS to assist with their design and implementation.
